St. Raphael’s Ladies Guild is sponsoring a Sweetheart Celebration at St. Raphael’s Church Hall, Main St, Poultney, on Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 6:30 PM-10:00 PM.

Hors d’oeuvres, desserts, non alcoholic beverages and chocolate fountains will be available from 6:30PM and dancing begins at 7:00PM.

Music provided by the local band, “Times Like These”, featuring Steve Mulholland, Moses Hudson-Knapp and Mike Schwaner playing hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s

The Poultney Woman’s Club is sponsoring its Annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 18, at 3:00PM at St Raphael’s Church Hall on Main St in Poultney.
Christmas music will be performed by the Poultney – Granville Town Band and will feature traditional Christmas Music.
All are invited to enjoy this free presentation by local musicians and join in a holiday sing a long.  Light refreshments will be served.

Sylvia’s Circle has been busy creating items for a Christmas Bazaar and a luncheon. Both will be held at the Methodist Church , 108 Main Street , Poultney , Vermont on Saturday, November 19th. The Bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It will feature handcrafted items.  Come do your Christmas shopping at leisure and enjoy a lunch of homemade soup, sandwiches and dessert.  Luminaries for the Christmas Eve service, in memory of or in honor of your loved ones will also be available for purchase.  Proceeds from the bazaar will benefit the Poultney Food Shelf and to help the Vermont Flood Victims.

Sylvia’s Circle is a Poultney Methodist Church group of people who enjoy meeting together to make crafts and baked goods.  It is named in memory of the late Sylvia (Thayer) Williams, a special Poultney and Methodist caring person who was friend to many and who taught many how to enjoy crafting.

Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Greeley’s Birth: Join us for a day filled with dynamic writers’ workshops, speakers, and camaraderie!

Sponsored by the non-profit Horace Greeley Foundation, this event is not to be missed! Through speakers and interactive workshops, the Horace Greeley Writer’s Conference explores the art of writing as presented by publishers, poets and writers of all types. Central to the mission of the Foundation is preserving the sense of place and memory of life in a small New England village. During the conference, we will tour places where Greeley lived, worked, debated and voraciously read the books and journals that fed his intellectual curiosity to a young man.

Keynote Speaker: Mickey Rapkin is a former senior editor of GQ Magazine, Mr. Rapkin is a published author of two books, Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory (2008), and Theatre Geek. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, TimeOut New York, The New York Post, Entertainment Weekly, and other publications. He graduated cum laude from Cornell University in 2000. He lives in Manhattan.

September 21st, 2011 is Charter Day!

Join us as a tree, donated by the PDRC through the help of a Preservation Trust of Vermont and State Downtown Program Tree Planting Grant, is planted in dedication to Poultney’s 250^th! Much thanks to Dave Winter of Winter Landscaping for the planting, and Etched In Stone for the donated plaque!

There will also be a reading of the Poultney Charter and the Vermont State Resolution.

Location for the planting is the lawn to the West of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

From 6-7:00pm, Poultney Elementary School invites you to their annual Open House! The 4th grade class will display images from their local history trip to the Union Academy, East Poultney’s one-room school house. Please, join us in celebrating the history of education in Poultney!

As a part of our 250^th celebration, we will be burying a time capsule on Sunday, September 25^th! Due to size constraints, we’ll be burying most items in digital format! Bring any item from home that you want to immortalize, and we’ll have a room set up where we will take a digital photograph of the item(s) and add that to the Capsule!

Quilt Cake

The Poultney Historical Society is creating a “Quilt Cake,” and we want your help! The Society will be baking and decorating a rectangular sheet-cake for the dinner. Flex your decorating skills! Bring in your own rectangular cake!! All cakes submitted will be placed next to each other, creating a quilt cake for our Community! Photos of the cake will be put in the Time Capsule.
