Poultney 2020 – Unity Project
October 8 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Now that we own the property on Main St., I’d like to use our blossoming Slate Quarry Park for a town take on this project we did at GMC – Unity Project – during Town wide yard sale day on October 8th, in addition to having a few yard sale tables set up closer to the side walk benefiting fundraising efforts for the park.
Basically, it’s going to be a community building initiative in the form of an art installation that will enable conversation to take place in the community about our collective identity. Who are we?
I am attaching the Manual for the project, the idea for which we are adapting from Unity College. You may peruse that if you wish, but I’d really like everyone’s feedback on the Google Doc I’m including: “Unity Project”. Please read through the page/list and comment on which identifiers you think would accommodate Poultney’s uniqueness. Your ideas are valuable.
There are a couple of things we need to make this a successful project:
- Yarn, and lots of it. We have had a lot of generous donations already, but we estimate that we’ll be using 6 1/4 miles of yarn, so more is welcome.
- Post-drivers, if you have one, we’ll love to borrow it to help set up the circle.
- Time, yes, I’m talking volunteering. We’ll be setting up the circle on Wednesday, October 5th at 12:30 pm. And we’ll need facilitators during October 8th from 9 -4 pm.
If you have a Facebook account, check out the video about the Unity Project here.
Any questions about the project, please contact me. I hope to read your comments about our list of identifiers and make up printed cards suitable to remain in the park for several weeks along with the full installation. Looking forward to it!unitymanual
