Poultney Elementary School
Focusing on the Basics
The Poultney Elementary School is focusing on students becoming proficient in the basics in English Language and Arts and mathematics. Students are helped to achieve a basic understanding of reading and to be able to analyze and interpret what they read. Students are expected to develop effectiveness in writing and to demonstrate control of English grammar and conventions. In mathematics, the school strives to have students develop skills, use concepts and solve problems. The school uses a rigorous curriculum and training in the Vermont Standards tests to achieve these goals. The elementary school uses the Vermont Standards test results as one measure of progress. In 2003, the school’s results on the Standards tests exceeded the state results in many areas.
The School works with an extremely active Parent Group to complement the School budget and various grants in order to—through fund raising—support activities in the Arts and provide other enrichment experiences.
