    Life in the Great Outdoors

Poultney offers residents and visitors outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities. Among the most popular are boating, fishing and other water sports on Lake St. Catherine, the Poultney River and several trout streams. You can even visit the good old swimming hole. Golfers will enjoy the 18 hole Lake St. Catherine Country Club. Abundant deer, grouse and wild turkey offer ample hunting opportunities. The Poultney Fish & Game Club meets monthly and provides members with a target shooting range. Birders and hikers can explore the many trails in town. Horse back riding is enjoyed by many. Winter sports include ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Ice fishing contests are held every winter on Lake St. Catherine, nearby Lake Bomoseen and Lake Champlain. The Poultney Valley Snowmobile Devils Club maintains 150 miles of snowmobiling trails.

The Lake St. Catherine State Park offers public swimming, camping, boat access, fishing, a playground, a nature museum and full bath facilities. The Delaware and Hudson Recreation Path is used by hikers, cross country skiers, bicyclers, horseback riders and snowmobiliers
