    East Poultney Green

East Poultney GreenEast Poultney offers an interesting counterpoint to downtown. Here you will find a classic New England village green replete with the white-steepled Baptist church. The green is surrounded by a number of important historical buildings many of which are open to visitors.

East Poultney General StoreThe East Poultney General Store, which dates to the 1830’s, is a favorite for residents and visitors. Here you can buy hearty sandwiches made with artisan breads, gourmet dishes, a nice selection of wines and goods ranging from seeds to hunting caps. Down the street is Picket Fence Antiques which is housed in the Horace Greeley house.

The East Poultney green is the site of community events each summer. Band concerts are held here on each summer Sunday evening.

East Poultney DayOn the second Saturday in August, on East Poultney Day, the village green has the atmosphere of a fair about it, populated with 50 vendors selling antiques, folk art and collectibles.

Period songs, games, and stories await visitors. A traditional church supper ends the day and gives one time to rest and reflect on Poultney’s history, and one’s place in the continuity of community. This annual event is organized and sponsored by the Poultney Historical Society.
