Poultney Chamber of Commerce - The Good Life

    Streetscape Improvement Project

Central Main Street Improvement ProjectThe Poultney Downtown Revitalization Committee, Inc has developed a streetscape improvement design and implementation plan. The design will create a more attractive down town that will restore the historic look of Main Street. Under the plan the following improvements are envisioned:

    • Reinvigorate the historic tree – lined streetscape through the planting of both deciduous canopy and ornamental trees.
    • Create a downtown gateway at the intersection of Route 30 and Main Street which will include directional signage.
    • Completely replace the existing sidewalks while replacing inadequate drainage and antiquated water and sewer lines. Provide guidelines for the relationship among the street, sidewalks and business property. Provide design guidelines for signage for main street businesses.
    • Replace or augment the existing lighting system with more attractive historic styled streetlights.
    • Improve the safety of the downtown area by providing off street parking, traffic calming devices, more visible cross walks, curbing and alleviating conflicts between driveways and pedestrian access.

Poultney has received grants of $40,000 from the VT Downtown Transportation Fund and $300,000 from the VT Department of Transportation to fund the initial stages of this plan. These funds will be used to install new sidewalks, curbing and improved street lighting.
